Driving Breakthrough in Battery Technology & System Integration
7+ years advancing Li–S and Li-ion technologies from lab science to pilot-line manufacturing and BESS integration.
About.
I’m Bhargav Bhamwala.
I lead R&D efforts in next-generation Li–S and Li-Metal batteries, advancing fundamental materials insights into manufacturable multi-Ah cell technologies. I hold dual M.S. degrees in Chemical Engineering from UC San Diego—where I worked on Li–S and Li-metal batteries under Prof. Shirley Meng and Mechanical Engineering from the University of Houston under Prof. Haleh Ardebeli, focusing on polymer-based electrolytes for bendable Li-ion batteries.
My work spans materials formulation, cell design, and pilot-line scale-up. I’ve led cross-functional DOEs, developed formation and diagnostic protocols, and guided equipment commissioning to accelerate product readiness.
I have published research in leading materials and electrochemical journals and contributed to industry–academic programs advancing next-generation energy storage.
🏆 Major Achievements
- Played a key role in delivering the world’s first deployable Li–S battery pack through a $3M CEC-funded program.
- Directed scale-up efforts from 0.5 Ah to 10 Ah Li–S cells, coordinating pilot-line fabrication and module validation.
- Created NexTData, a Python-based analytics platform for formation, cycling, and diagnostic workflows.
- Collaborated with GM, SES AI, UL and Umicore.
- Published contributions in the Battery500 Consortium.
